Ah yes, the fall is such a beautiful time of the year, is it not? Leaves crunching under your feet, crisp and clear days, apples getting crunchy on the trees, and football games every week. But better than all of these, for some of us, is that it is time to trick or treat! And so it is time to start thinking about good Halloween costume ideas now.
This holiday seems to bring out the kid in everyone, and nobody should miss out on the fun. Since money may be tight you may be thinking you will not be able to do much for costumes this year, but you would be wrong to think so. With a little bit of imagination you can find great outfits using stuff that is stashed around the house. And it is so much more fun to do this yourself.
Think about how cool the classic ghost costume is. It is a ready to wear sheet and that is about it! And you can cut in extra eyeholes all over the sheet for the very cool Charlie Brown look for big chuckles from those who still remember. And talk about cheap, you can find an old white sheet pretty much anywhere for the special night.
Another good look using old things is the bum, or train tramp. All you need are the things that you no longer want. Get in the closet and pull out that ratty old sweater and some beat up old jeans, and then make them look even worse. The kids will love doing this, tearing new holes, and spilling grape juice on the items. Do whatever you want to make them look terrible, then head on out to tramp for the sticky sweets in the neighborhood.
And still more uses for those old clothes are going for the retro look. We all can usually dig up something that will help turn a kid, or ourselves, into an iconic symbol of another age. Or you can go for a biker thing, a rock star, a celebrity, or whatever you used to look like when you were young. The kids always get a kick out of wearing what the parents used to wear when they were kids, too.
If you, or someone you know, were an athlete in their younger days there is a good chance that an old uniform is stored in the garage or somewhere. Kids love to emulate their heroes, and sports figures rank high on that list. The outfits may be a bit outsized, but things can get taped up and pinned to be serviceable for just one night. And you will enjoy trotting out those great memories, too.
And these are but a few ideas out of many. With a bit of ingenuity, and a good look around, you can find many more Halloween costume ideas that will cost you nothing to put together. Everybody loves to play dress up, and this is such a great night for fun, that you do not want to miss out at all. Open up that old wardrobe and join in the celebration.
